Autism heterogeneity and systems-level modelling

A second clinical thread in NIPG’s portfolio, distinct from the psychiatric-monitoring line but methodologically connected through multimodal behaviour analysis.

The Autism Palette

The Autism Palette: Combinations of Impairments Explain the Heterogeneity in ASD (Fóthi, Soorya, Lőrincz) proposes a cognitive framework in which heterogeneous autism-related manifestations may arise from different combinations of component impairments. It provides a mechanism-oriented conceptual basis for dimensional phenotyping and stratification. PubMed · DOI

Safeguard. It is a theoretical framework, not a validated diagnostic model.

Gene-network work

Peripheral gene interactions define interpretable clusters of core ASD genes in a network-based investigation of the omnigenic theory (Fóthi, Pintér, Pollner, Lőrincz) demonstrates capability in tissue-specific gene networks, community detection, biological interpretation, and links between disruptive variants in gene clusters and phenotypic differences. Safeguard. It supports the systems-biology and network-medicine dimension of the ecosystem. It is not an individual clinical prediction tool.

Why it belongs in this wiki

Three connections:

  1. Dimensional phenotyping is the same conceptual move as within-person measurement — replacing categorical labels with graded, combinable dimensions. → Longitudinal within-person measurement
  2. The ADOS-2 multimodal work is the observational counterpart to the theoretical framework: measuring behaviour during structured clinical interaction in the same population. → Multimodal behaviour analysis
  3. Systems-level thinking connects to Michael Benros’s immunogenetics, omics and systems-biology approach in psychiatry — different disorder, same methodological family.
